More 2014-2011
The omnipresence of constant communication generates a visceral anxiety that I
experience through clenched teeth, and icy extremities. My recent work invokes this
anxiety by inducing a kind of kinetosis through unrelenting visual activity. I make hand-
made snapshots of digital snapshots using imagery culled from social media websites.
Like the photographs from which they are derived, the paintings frequently border on the
abstract, but lack the rigorously organized pixilation of the source images. Agitated
patterns and textures generate a bristling, buzzing surface through which people,
objects, and spaces alternately emerge and retreat. The colors are acidic, and engage in
active, deliberate discord, inducing a state of comprehensive disquiet triggered by a
profusion of information.
